did you know that...

...Schott Music Publishing and Ludwig van Beethoven share a birth year? In reading Leon Botstein's The Patrons and Publics of the Quartets, I noticed that Beethoven sold his Ninth Symphony to Schott's Sons to be published (1824) and then I thought is it possible its the same company that I bought sheet music from last month? Yes it is. Schott has been a music publishing company since 1770, the same year Beethoven was born. The company has been a cornerstone publishing house ever since, publishing the first copies of works by Beethoven, Rossini, Liszt, Wagner, Stravinsky, Schoenberg, Hindemith, Ligeti, Penderecki and Reimann.
