Many musicians (and audience members) are familiar with Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, written in just 3 days to commemorate the anniversary of the October Revolution. We know that at the speed some conductors take, many of the speeding woodwind lines are difficult to articulate cleanly. However, I have never seen anything this ballsy…that has succeeded so magnificently. A trumpet octet from Juilliard playing it….at top speed.
I dare you not to be impressed.

Since there is no known recording of a trumpet octet playing the Festive Overture, here are two full orchestra versions of the piece. I suppose if you really want the trumpet version, you can find a way to rip the audio from the Youtube video. I personally have the recording on the right with the New Zealand Symphony and its quite good.
